Hi everyone! Just wanted to give you a heads up on where we are with the book. This past week we set about formatting the manuscript to up-load it for printing. This is something I have been dreading for a while.
Talk about wanting to rip your hair out. Let’s say, I thought it would be difficult. I didn’t think there would be tears! There were… a few. Okay, a lot and it was just me. The two of us sat together for a long time watching a how-to video, which I’m sure is simple for other folks to follow.
Unfortunately, we had to stop it numerous times to figure out what the heck they were doing. It didn’t help us that our version of “Word” wasn’t behaving the same way as in the video. Before you all scream were you using the right version of Word? Don’t you up-date? Yes, and yes. It worked later on, but I’ll get to that.
I’m thinking there are few things more humbling than learning a new software program. Talk about feeling like a Kindergartener. Frustrating is an understatement. I liken it to arriving on an Alien planet and trying to learn the language because your life depends on it! But no pressure, right?
So, what do you do when you can’t figure out how to do something on the computer? I suppose if you have deep pockets, you can pay someone to help. Ours have holes so that wasn’t really an option. You call your husband, now lovingly referred to as the IT department, and you go out for lunch. At least, that’s what we did. Dessert always makes everything better. Thank you, Sweetheart!
He could get the formatting straightened out, and yes, our version of “Word” apparently is just fine. The people operating it, not so much. That said, we have worked out the last few details, and on Tuesday, we hope to order our first Proof Copies. When we get them, we will look it over to make sure everything is the way we want it. If it isn’t, we will make some corrections, and over-write the existing file. Then, and only then, will it go live! You will be the first to know, we promise.
In the meantime, we sure hope you are enjoying the week-end snowstorm that wasn’t. Even without the snow…Brrrr! It’s cold. So, throw another log on the fire, make sure the fur-babies are in the house, and stay warm!
